On May 12, 2021, multiple CDI professionals (including Autumn Reiter, Director of CDI Services for CorroHealth) joined together to discuss their hearts for the nursing profession and working through guilt associated with not being on the frontline serving during the chaos associated with COVID-19 in 2020. The lineup of professionals included:
Erica E. Remer, MD, FACEP, CCDS
Autumn Reiter, RN, BSN, MBA, CCDS, CCDS-O, CDIP, CCS
Laurie L. Prescott, RN, MSN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CDIP, CRC
The ACDIS Podcast titled “Missing the bedside, finding purpose” is now available for live streaming at https://acdis.org/acdis-podcast/missing-bedside-finding-purpose, simply click one of the two links above.
One data point from the podcast that we thought was interesting was from the poll question asking “Do you miss working at the bedside in patient care?”
- 8% say Yes, it’s an ache not being bedside
- 50% say Yes, Somewhat, from time to time
- 11 % say No
- The remainder stated it was not applicable.
We learned that RN’s that are now CDI professionals have that heart pull from time to time that they are needed and miss being bedside with patients. The interview is rich with detail and definitely worth a listen.
